US jobless claims fall to 194,000

US initial jobless claims fell to 194,000 for the week ended October 24, according to figures released on October 29, below the 199,000 forecast.

The previous week's reading was revised from 194,000 to 195,000. The four-week moving average declined to 196,750, while continuing claims stood at 1.701 million.

Low layoffs suggest that the US labour market remains relatively resilient. However, subdued hiring means employment conditions are not uniformly strong. The latest claims data could reinforce the view that the Federal Reserve faces little immediate pressure to ease monetary policy.
