U.S. election results trigger market sell-off

Democratic gains in the U.S. congressional midterm elections held on November 3 triggered sharp movements across global financial markets on Wednesday, November 4.

Democrats securing majorities in both chambers of Congress increased uncertainty surrounding the future of President Donald Trump's economic policies. Nasdaq futures fell more than 2% in early trading, while the U.S. dollar weakened. Treasury yields also declined as investors shifted toward safe-haven assets.

The election results are expected to potentially reshape regulations affecting technology companies, artificial intelligence investments, banking, and the cryptocurrency sector. Selling pressure intensified in technology stocks already facing concerns over elevated capital expenditures, while Asian markets also recorded losses. Japan's Nikkei index declined approximately 3%, as investors closely monitored the potential implications of the new congressional composition for tax policy, government spending, and economic growth.
