U.S. employment costs and Chicago PMI in focus

Two key economic indicators are scheduled for release in the United States on Friday, October 30, 2026, offering fresh insights into economic activity and inflationary pressures.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) will release the third-quarter Employment Cost Index (ECI) at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time (3:30 p.m. Türkiye time). Economists expect employment costs to rise by 0.8% quarter over quarter, compared with a 0.9% increase in the previous quarter. The October Chicago Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) is scheduled for release at 9:45 a.m. Eastern Time (4:45 p.m. Türkiye time). Market expectations stand at 56.0, down from the previous reading of 58.8.

The Employment Cost Index measures changes in wages and employee benefits, providing important signals about labor-related inflationary pressures in the U.S. economy. Meanwhile, the Chicago PMI reflects business conditions in the region and offers insights into the manufacturing sector's outlook. Following the Federal Reserve's October 28 interest rate decision, investors will closely monitor these releases for clues about the future direction of monetary policy. Any significant deviation from expectations could trigger volatility in U.S. Treasury yields, the dollar, and equity markets.
