US jobless claims come in below expectations

Initial jobless claims in the US came in at 197,000, below the market expectation of 200,000.

The previous week’s figure was revised from 197,000 to 198,000. The data indicated that layoffs continue to remain at low levels.

Continuing jobless claims also came in below expectations at 1.701 million, compared with the 1.725 million forecast. The previous figure was revised down from 1.719 million to 1.712 million. With both indicators coming in below expectations, the data signaled continued resilience in the US labor market and is being closely watched for its implications for Fed monetary policy.
