America prepares for a major war
The U.S. Department of Defense is developing a new preparedness plan aimed at ensuring that military bases across the country can operate independently of external support for at least 90 days in the event of a large-scale war.
Under the initiative, known as FORTRESS, military installations would be able to maintain uninterrupted access to electricity, water, fuel, and communications even if civilian infrastructure is damaged.
The Pentagon plans to develop portable nuclear reactors, large-scale battery systems, and microgrids to reduce military bases' dependence on civilian power networks. The initiative also aims to redirect civilian factories toward defense production during potential crises, establish alternative supply chains, and strengthen strategic fuel and ammunition reserves. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell emphasized that relying on civilian infrastructure for national defense poses an unacceptable risk, stating that the preparations are intended to ensure the continuity of military operations.
