Germany IFO business climate index rises
Germany's IFO business climate index rose to 90.2, exceeding market expectations of 89.9 and the previous reading of 89.9. The IFO expectations index also climbed to 91.6, above the 90.0 forecast and the previous 90.4 reading. The figures indicated improving business expectations regarding Germany's economic outlook.
However, the IFO current assessment index declined to 88.8, falling short of market expectations of 89.8 and the previous reading of 89.5. While assessments of current economic conditions weakened, stronger expectations could provide some optimism about Germany's growth outlook. The data may also influence European Central Bank (ECB) monetary policy expectations and the euro.
