Amazon challenges Nvidia with TorchNeuron
Amazon introduced TorchNeuron, a new software tool that allows developers to run existing PyTorch code on its custom Trainium AI chips without rewriting applications.
Developed by Amazon's Annapurna Labs division, the software requires only a single configuration change. Amazon plans to release the tool as free, open-source software.
The initiative aims to challenge Nvidia's software advantage, which has been reinforced by its CUDA ecosystem. According to Amazon, more than 30 early customers working on robotics, voice AI and world models are already using the technology. Easier PyTorch compatibility could reduce switching costs between AI computing platforms. However, Nvidia's established software position is unlikely to change immediately.
