AMD makes $8.2 billion AI move
AMD has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire World Labs, led by Dr. Fei-Fei Li, for approximately $8.2 billion as it seeks to strengthen its artificial intelligence capabilities.
The all-stock transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. The acquisition will bring World Labs’ researchers and AI model experts into AMD.
San Francisco-based World Labs develops spatial intelligence models capable of creating interactive three-dimensional environments from text, image and video inputs. The company also works on robotic learning and simulation technologies. AMD said the acquisition will strengthen its ability to develop AI hardware, software and systems while contributing to its future technology roadmap.
