Europe's machinery firms eye defence growth

A November 6 survey by German engineering association VDMA found that 43% of member companies already active in defence and security expect to at least double their revenue from the sector by 2030.

Another 46% anticipate more moderate growth, while 92% see opportunities to expand deliveries over the next 12 months.

Rising European defence expenditure could generate additional orders for machinery manufacturers and industrial equipment suppliers. However, lengthy procurement processes, regulatory hurdles and limited customer relationships may constrain expansion. The survey reflects business expectations rather than confirmed contracts.
