Turkish banking sector profits rise 16.6%
The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) has released banking sector data for the first nine months of 2026.
According to the report, the sector's net profit increased by 16.6% year over year to TL 780.9 billion during the January–September period. Total lending volume rose by 35.8% annually to TL 28.8 trillion, while total assets expanded by 30.7% to TL 57 trillion.
Despite growth in lending and profitability, the banking sector recorded an increase in its non-performing loan ratio. The ratio climbed from 2.29% in September 2025 to 3.05% in September 2026. During the same period, the core capital adequacy ratio declined from 14% to 12%, while the total capital adequacy ratio fell from 19% to 17%. The figures indicate that Türkiye's banking sector continues to expand, although credit quality and capital adequacy indicators have weakened.
