Barclays assesses CBRT's Turkish lira adjustment
British investment bank Barclays has assessed that the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT) has made a technical adjustment to the pace of depreciation of the Turkish lira.
According to the bank, the move aims to ensure more controlled exchange rate movements and support efforts to combat inflation. Barclays indicated that the change should be viewed as a technical adjustment to exchange rate management rather than a fundamental shift in monetary policy.
In its analysis, Barclays emphasized that the relationship between the Turkish lira's nominal depreciation rate and inflation remains important for monetary policy. The bank highlighted the impact of exchange rate movements on import costs and inflation expectations, noting that the CBRT's approach to the foreign exchange market will continue to be closely monitored in relation to the disinflation process, capital flows, and investor interest in Turkish lira-denominated assets.
