New era for gasoline as phased SCT begins

Türkiye has introduced a major change to the taxation of gasoline.

Under a Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette, a phased Special Consumption Tax (SCT) system has been introduced for gasoline following its implementation for diesel. The SCT on 95-octane gasoline was raised from TRY 4.37 to TRY 7.90 per liter for October. Including VAT, the increase is expected to add approximately TRY 4.23 per liter to pump prices.

Under the new system, the SCT will continue to rise in the coming months. The tax on 95-octane gasoline will increase to TRY 11.36 per liter between November 1 and 30, and to TRY 14.8277 from December 1, 2026. The regulation also ends the sliding-scale tax system for gasoline, completing the transition to a phased taxation system for both diesel and gasoline.
