Bessent makes bold call on US debt
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the country’s debt outlook could improve rapidly through strong economic growth and tighter control of government spending.
Bessent emphasized that the key metric is the ratio of public debt to GDP.
Bessent said the debt-to-GDP trajectory could be reversed if the US economy grows at around 3%, adding that progress is being made in reducing the budget deficit and debt. US public debt exceeding $40 trillion and rising Treasury yields continue to fuel debate over debt sustainability.
