Bessent highlights strong demand for US Treasuries
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the US Treasury market has performed strongly, with recent bond auctions attracting solid demand.
Speaking to 2Way TV on October 20, Bessent noted that economic and geopolitical challenges across different regions of the world are driving investors toward US Treasury securities. He emphasized that global uncertainty continues to support capital inflows into US government bonds.
Addressing the impact of rising energy prices on the US economy, Bessent said the energy shock has pushed interest rates higher, contributing to a slowdown in the housing market. He expressed expectations that mortgage rates will decline in the coming period and highlighted the importance of economic growth in reducing government debt. Bessent also stated that no changes are planned to the US government's fiscal year 2030 plans, emphasizing the need to keep public spending under control.
