Bessent urges China to honor trade commitments

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called on China to fulfill the commitments it made during trade negotiations with the United States.

Emphasizing that economic relations between Washington and Beijing depend on mutual obligations, Bessent stated that implementing the agreed terms is essential to maintaining trade stability between the two countries.

According to the U.S. Treasury Department, Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer held a video conference with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. The discussions focused particularly on China's commitments regarding purchases of U.S. agricultural products, rare earth elements, and critical minerals. Bessent expressed concern over some of China's recent actions and stated that the Trump administration would closely monitor compliance with the agreement while continuing to protect the interests of American producers.
