Bill Gates warns about artificial intelligence risks
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates warned that artificial intelligence has become powerful enough to cause massive loss of life if it falls into the hands of malicious actors.
Gates said the technology could become “powerful enough to trigger events that could kill a billion people,” arguing that self-regulation by AI companies would not be sufficient.
Gates called on the US Congress and lawmakers to step in and establish mandatory safety standards for artificial intelligence companies. While acknowledging that regulations could impose additional costs on technology firms, Gates said stronger safety measures would not significantly slow progress in AI.
