BoJ may signal inflation has reached its 2% target

The Bank of Japan may signal this month that underlying inflation has roughly reached its 2% target, according to three sources who spoke to Reuters.

Such an assessment could strengthen expectations that the BoJ is prepared to raise interest rates again in the coming months.

After raising rates in September to their highest level in 31 years, the BoJ remains cautious about another increase in October.

According to the sources, the bank wants to assess the impact of previous rate increases, while a signal that the 2% target has been reached could support market expectations for a December rate hike.
