US markets face a key week of economic data

U.S. markets will focus on several important economic and Federal Reserve developments this week.

The ISM Services PMI will be released on Monday, October 5, followed by the September FOMC meeting minutes on Wednesday, October 7.

The minutes will not represent a new interest-rate decision but could provide important insight into policymakers' views on inflation, economic growth and the interest-rate outlook.

Attention will then turn to weekly initial and continuing jobless claims on Thursday, October 8, followed by the University of Michigan preliminary consumer sentiment index on Friday, October 9. Persistently low jobless claims would signal a stronger labor market, while significant surprises could influence Fed rate expectations, Treasury yields, the U.S. dollar and technology stocks including the Nasdaq.
