Türkiye posts $4 billion current account surplus

The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT) released its balance of payments data for August, showing that the country's current account recorded a surplus of $4.05 billion, exceeding market expectations of $3.8 billion.

Following a $36 million surplus in July, Türkiye's current account remained in positive territory for the second consecutive month.

The balance of payments-defined foreign trade deficit stood at $3.75 billion in August, while the current account excluding gold and energy recorded a surplus of $8.21 billion. The narrowing of the foreign trade deficit from $5.58 billion in the previous month and the improvement in the core current account balance were notable developments. The figures showed that Türkiye maintained a monthly current account surplus despite its foreign trade deficit.
