Cevdet Yılmaz signals payments to fund investors
Türkiye's Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz announced that efforts to liquidate troubled investment funds and compensate affected investors are ongoing.
Yılmaz said the Fund Coordination Board, which he chairs, is working intensively and that administrative and judicial measures are being implemented in coordination. He stated that ordinary liquidation procedures are progressing rapidly, while the legislative amendments required for extraordinary liquidation are currently on the agenda of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). Yılmaz emphasized that efforts are underway to recover unlawfully obtained gains, return them to the system, and distribute the recovered funds to investors.
Yılmaz argued that the problems are limited to a specific segment of the investment fund market and warned that portraying the measures as affecting all investment funds could undermine investor confidence. He noted that funds operating in compliance with regulations account for more than 90% of the market, emphasizing that investing in funds and stocks is not a crime, whereas market manipulation and unlawful transactions are. Yılmaz stated that liquidating troubled funds would help strengthen the structure of Türkiye's capital markets.
