China opposes expanded US investment curbs
China's Ministry of Commerce urged the United States on October 24 to halt plans to expand restrictions on American investments involving China.
The US Treasury proposal, announced on October 22, adds biotechnology to the restricted sectors and broadens controls covering high-performance computing and hypersonic systems. Beijing said it reserved the right to take countermeasures.
The response highlights continuing tensions over technology investment and cross-border capital flows between the two countries. The proposed rules could affect companies investing in strategically sensitive technologies.
However, the US measures remain proposals, and China has not announced specific retaliatory action. Their eventual financial impact therefore remains uncertain.
