China's September exports surge 36.3% above forecasts

China's exports increased 36.3% year on year in September, significantly exceeding the 25.5% market forecast, according to customs data released on October 14.

Export growth accelerated from 25% in August. Imports rose 31%, surpassing expectations of 24.5% and the previous month's 28.2% increase. The monthly trade surplus reached $133.53 billion, bringing the January-September surplus to $938.11 billion. Strong global demand for semiconductors and high-technology products supported shipments.

The stronger-than-expected export performance indicates that international trade continues to support China's economy despite weak domestic consumption. However, the widening surplus could intensify trade tensions with the United States and European Union. China is increasingly likely to exceed a $1 trillion trade surplus this year, while restrictions on technology and automotive exports remain important risks.
