CoreWeave bonds signal rising credit risk
Bonds issued by AI cloud infrastructure company CoreWeave have come under significant pressure, highlighting growing risks in private credit markets.
The company carries approximately $50 billion in debt. The cost of insuring its debt against default climbed to around 1,200 basis points during the week, while yields on some bonds reached approximately 15%–16%. CoreWeave previously secured an $8.5 billion financing facility in March 2026.
The developments highlight the growing importance of leverage and credit quality in financing AI data centre expansion. Carlyle estimated in an October report that private credit markets could be required to finance approximately $1 trillion of AI computing infrastructure. Rising borrowing costs at CoreWeave may complicate funding conditions for similar companies. However, elevated bond yields do not, by themselves, indicate that the company has defaulted.
