Türkiye's trade deficit narrows 25.8% in September
According to foreign trade statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) on October 28, 2026, Türkiye's exports increased by 15.3% year over year in September to $25.97 billion.
Imports rose by 5.6% to $31.13 billion. As a result, the country's foreign trade deficit narrowed by 25.8% compared with the same month last year, falling to approximately $5.16 billion. An improvement in the export-to-import coverage ratio supported the recovery in the trade balance.
During the January–September period, Türkiye's cumulative foreign trade deficit stood at approximately $70.97 billion. Export growth outpacing import growth in September was the main driver behind the narrowing monthly trade deficit. Foreign trade figures remain important indicators for expectations surrounding Türkiye's current account balance and external financing needs, while the outlook for export performance in the coming months will be closely monitored.
