Foreign currency deposits fall after five weeks of gains

The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT) released foreign currency deposit data for the week ending October 16, 2026.

According to figures adjusted for exchange rate effects, foreign currency deposits held by domestic residents declined by $848 million. The decrease ended a five-week streak of increases, following a $324 million rise recorded in the previous week.

A breakdown of the data showed that foreign currency deposits held by individuals fell by $266 million, while corporate deposits decreased by $582 million. Companies accounted for approximately 69% of the total decline. By excluding the impact of exchange rate fluctuations on deposit balances, the exchange rate-adjusted figures provide a clearer picture of underlying deposit movements.
