Eurozone extends ECB nomination deadline
Eurozone governments extended the deadline to nominate a replacement for European Central Bank Executive Board member Isabel Schnabel from October 28 to November 27.
The decision was made public on October 27, after member states were informed the previous week. Schnabel will leave the ECB on January 3, 2027, to take up a position at the International Monetary Fund.
The extension provides more time for negotiations over senior ECB appointments. Chief economist Philip Lane is also expected to leave next May, increasing the importance of representation among Germany, France, Spain and the Netherlands. The nomination change does not directly alter current monetary policy.
