Erdoğan announces new steps to accelerate fund payments
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the ongoing fund investigation during his party's parliamentary group meeting on October 21.
Explaining that the liquidation process is being carried out in three stages, Erdoğan said payments to investors would accelerate once the proposed legislation currently before Parliament takes effect. He emphasized that the government's first priority is to return the assets held in funds designated for liquidation to their rightful owners, adding that the Fund Coordination Board and economic authorities are closely monitoring the process.
Erdoğan stated that the second stage would focus on holding those who obtained unlawful profits through market manipulation accountable before the courts. The third stage would involve introducing institutional and legal measures to prevent similar problems from recurring. He stressed that necessary steps would be taken in line with a report to be prepared by the State Supervisory Council, noting that the process affecting more than 455,000 investors is being handled with particular care. The legislation under consideration in the Turkish Grand National Assembly would allow eligible investors to receive interim payments of up to 1 million Turkish lira from the liquidation assets of the affected funds.
