Eurozone retail sales fall short of expectations

Eurozone retail sales increased 0.8% year over year, below the market forecast of 1.0%, following a 0.6% increase in the previous period.

The figures show that retail consumption continued to grow on an annual basis, but at a weaker pace than expected.

On a monthly basis, retail sales rose 0.1%, missing the 0.2% forecast. The increase following the previous 0.6% decline points to a partial recovery, although the weaker-than-expected result suggests that the rebound in consumer demand remains limited.
