Eurozone growth beats expectations
The Eurozone economy expanded 0.4% quarter over quarter, according to preliminary data, exceeding market expectations of 0.2%.
However, growth slowed from the previous quarter's 0.6% reading. Annual GDP growth accelerated to 1.3%, surpassing the 1.1% forecast and the previous 1.2% reading. The figures indicated stronger-than-expected economic activity despite slower quarterly growth.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate increased to 6.5%, exceeding market expectations of 6.4% and the previous 6.4% reading. The slight rise in unemployment suggested some weakening in the labor market despite relatively resilient economic growth. The combination of stronger growth and higher unemployment could influence European Central Bank (ECB) monetary policy expectations.
