Eurozone economic confidence declines

The Eurozone economic confidence index fell by 0.5 points month-on-month to 97.9 in September, coming in below market expectations of 99.

Across the European Union, the economic confidence index also declined by 0.4 points to 97.9.

The deterioration in economic confidence was driven particularly by weaker consumer sentiment. The Eurozone consumer confidence index fell from -15.5 to -16.5, while the index for the EU as a whole declined from -15 to -15.8.
