Eurozone inflation rises to 4%
The Eurozone's annual consumer price index (CPI) increased to 4.0%, according to preliminary data, matching market expectations.
The rise from the previous 3.8% reading signaled renewed upward pressure on headline inflation. Monthly CPI increased 0.4%, in line with forecasts but below the previous 0.6% increase.
Annual core CPI remained unchanged at 2.5%, matching market expectations. Despite the increase in headline inflation, stable core inflation suggested no significant acceleration in underlying price pressures. The figures could influence European Central Bank (ECB) interest-rate expectations and the pricing of euro-denominated assets.
