Eurozone retail sales decline
Eurozone retail sales fell 0.7% month over month, significantly missing market expectations for a 0.1% decline.
The downturn followed a 0.1% increase in the previous period, signaling renewed weakness in consumer spending and domestic demand.
On an annual basis, retail sales increased 0.4%, falling short of market expectations of 0.6%. The slowdown from the previous 0.8% growth rate highlighted weakening consumption momentum. The softer figures could weigh on the Eurozone's economic growth outlook and influence European Central Bank (ECB) interest-rate expectations.
