Fed holds interest rates steady
The Federal Reserve (Fed) kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.75%–4.00% during its monetary policy meeting on October 28, 2026, in line with market expectations.
The decision was approved by a 10–2 vote, with Fed Governor Lisa Cook and Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack dissenting in favor of a 25-basis-point rate hike. The Fed indicated that maintaining the current interest rate range would allow policymakers to more thoroughly assess economic developments and the inflation outlook.
In its policy statement, the Fed emphasized that U.S. economic activity continues to expand at a strong pace while inflation remains elevated. The central bank reiterated that it would continue evaluating incoming economic data, the inflation outlook, and the balance of risks when determining the future path of monetary policy. With interest rates left unchanged, investors have shifted their attention to the Fed's next policy moves and signals regarding the direction of interest rates at upcoming meetings.
