Fed holds rates steady, offers no clear December signal
The Federal Reserve kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.75%–4.00% at its October meeting, following September's first rate increase in three years. The decision passed by a 10–2 vote, with two policymakers favoring another 25-basis-point hike. The policy statement offered no firm guidance on December, emphasizing the need for additional economic data.
Fed Chair Kevin Warsh highlighted stronger economic activity while acknowledging that inflation remains elevated. He reiterated the central bank's commitment to price stability and indicated that future decisions would depend on incoming data. The lack of a clear December signal could keep the US dollar, Treasury yields and equity markets sensitive to upcoming economic releases.
