South Korea identifies cyberattacks at 16 financial firms
South Korea's Financial Services Commission announced on October 14 that hacking incidents had been identified at 16 financial institutions, involving approximately 100,000 data leakage cases.
The regulator said it was conducting an in-depth investigation into the attack methods, including whether artificial intelligence had been involved. Authorities plan additional security inspections and coordinated measures for early threat detection and incident response.
The incidents highlight growing cybersecurity risks across the financial sector and could increase regulatory pressure to strengthen customer data protection. The potential involvement of AI remains under investigation and has not been established. Findings from the inquiry may influence cybersecurity investment and operational requirements across South Korean financial institutions.
