South Korea fines Google and Apple

South Korea's Media and Communications Commission imposed fines of 42.9 billion won ($32.35 million) on Google and 20.81 billion won on Apple on October 28.

The combined 63.71 billion won penalty addresses restrictions on app developers' payment choices and improper delays in application reviews. The regulator also ordered both companies to stop the violations and implement corrective measures.

The decision strengthens regulatory scrutiny of mobile app payment systems in South Korea. Greater payment flexibility could affect developer costs and platform commission revenue. Apple has disputed the ruling and is evaluating its legal options, while the eventual commercial impact remains uncertain.
