Turkish manufacturing contracts for 31st consecutive month

The October 2026 Türkiye Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), released by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO), showed that the manufacturing sector's downturn extended into its 31st consecutive month.

The index remaining below the 50-point threshold indicated a continued deterioration in operating conditions across the industrial sector. Weak demand, declining new orders, and rising production costs remained among the main factors weighing on manufacturing activity.

Türkiye's manufacturing PMI fell to 47.3 in October from 47.9 in September, reaching its lowest level since June. The contraction in new orders was the sharpest in three months, while declines in production and employment continued. Among the 10 sectors surveyed, only clothing and leather products recorded an increase in output, while non-metallic mineral products experienced the steepest slowdown. Cost pressures stemming from oil prices, raw materials, and exchange rate movements remained elevated, with rising input prices continuing to challenge manufacturers' operating conditions.
