Bank of England expected to raise rates
The Bank of England will announce its monetary policy decision, meeting minutes and Monetary Policy Report on Thursday, November 5, at 12:00 p.m. GMT (7:00 a.m. EST).
Markets expect a 25-basis-point increase to 4.00% from the current 3.75% rate. Persistent inflation, including a September consumer inflation reading of 3.6%, has strengthened expectations for tighter monetary policy.
A rate increase accompanied by hawkish guidance could support sterling and UK government bond yields while weighing on interest-rate-sensitive equities. A softer policy message could have the opposite effect. Investors will also examine Governor Andrew Bailey's remarks, the Monetary Policy Committee's vote split and updated inflation projections for 2027.
