Iran awaits response to mediation offer
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh announced that Tehran has yet to receive a response from Saudi Arabia regarding its offer to mediate the crisis between Riyadh and Yemen's Houthi movement.
Speaking to Lebanon-based Al Mayadeen television, Khatibzadeh expressed concern over developments in Yemen and said the Iranian government had launched diplomatic efforts to help the parties reach a negotiated solution.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had also expressed Tehran's readiness to provide all necessary support to resolve the crisis during a phone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan on October 12. Araghchi warned that military measures could further escalate regional tensions and called on the parties to pursue dialogue. Saudi Arabia has not yet issued an official response to Iran's mediation initiative.
