Iran grants Strait of Hormuz exemptions to four countries
Iran announced that vessels belonging to India, China, Iraq, and Qatar have been exempted from transit restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Emir Hayat Moghaddam, Deputy Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, stated that ships from these countries can pass freely through the strait without interference from the United States. Moghaddam said the exemptions were granted based on mutual interests, with different conditions applying to each country.
The Iranian official explained that India's transit exemption aims to maintain pharmaceutical imports, while China's exemption is linked to securing political support from Beijing. Moghaddam stated that transit fees are collected from Indian and Chinese vessels, while Qatari ships are allowed to pass without paying any fees. Developments in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important route for global oil and natural gas trade, continue to be closely monitored for their implications for energy supply and international maritime transportation.
