Spain inflation eases slightly
Spain's annual Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) rose 4.9%, according to preliminary data, matching market expectations and easing slightly from the previous 5.0% reading.
Monthly HICP increased 0.5%, in line with forecasts but below the previous 0.6% rise, suggesting a modest slowdown in harmonized inflation.
Meanwhile, Spain's national Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 0.6% month over month, below market expectations of 0.7% but above the previous 0.3% rise. Although annual harmonized inflation eased, stronger monthly national consumer price growth pointed to persistent price pressures. The figures may influence expectations for European Central Bank (ECB) monetary policy.
