Türkiye's unemployment rate hits seven-month high

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) released its labor force statistics for September 2026.

Türkiye's unemployment rate increased by 0.5 percentage points from the previous month to 8.4%, reaching its highest level since February. The number of unemployed people rose by 198,000 month over month to 2.967 million. The unemployment rate stood at 6.9% for men and 11.3% for women.

Youth unemployment also increased, with the jobless rate among people aged 15–24 rising by 1.6 percentage points to 14.8%. Meanwhile, the labor underutilization rate, which includes time-related underemployment, the potential labor force, and unemployed individuals, increased by 0.2 percentage points to 31.2%. This broader measure of unemployment reached its highest level since June, signaling weakening conditions in Türkiye's labor market.
