Unemployment falls to 7.8%
Türkiye’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell by 0.3 percentage points month-on-month to 7.8% in August, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).
The number of unemployed people declined by 106,000 to 2.737 million during the same period. The unemployment rate stood at 8.1% in July.
Despite the decline in unemployment, the broader measure of labor underutilization increased. The rate, which includes time-related underemployment, the potential labor force and unemployed people, rose by 0.4 percentage points to 31% in August. While headline unemployment declined, the broader labor market indicator moved higher.
