Swiss inflation exceeds expectations
Switzerland's consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.2% month over month, exceeding market expectations for no change.
Consumer prices had remained flat in the previous period. Annual inflation accelerated to 1.5%, surpassing the 1.2% forecast and the previous 1.0% reading.
Annual core CPI remained unchanged at 0.5%, matching market expectations. Despite the increase in headline inflation, stable core inflation suggested that price pressures were not spreading evenly across the economy. The figures could influence Swiss National Bank (SNB) interest-rate expectations and movements in the Swiss franc.
