Japan’s services inflation hits two-year high
Japan’s services producer price index rose 3.7% year-on-year in August, marking the fastest increase since June 2024.
The index had risen 3.6% in July. Higher freight, advertising and rental costs contributed to the increase in price pressures.
The data strengthened expectations that the Bank of Japan could continue raising interest rates. The BOJ lifted its policy rate to 1.25% this month, bringing borrowing costs to their highest level in 31 years.
