Japan's Exports and Imports Slowed Down.
Japan's exports increased 16.7% year over year, falling short of market expectations of 21.3%.
Export growth slowed from the previous reading of 19.3%, suggesting weaker momentum in external demand. Imports rose 18.9% annually, below the 20.4% forecast and significantly slower than the previous 28.0% increase.
Japan recorded a ¥536.6 billion trade deficit, wider than the expected ¥210.4 billion shortfall. However, the deficit narrowed considerably from the previous ¥1,111.9 billion reading. Weaker-than-expected export growth could raise concerns about Japan's external demand outlook, while the narrowing trade deficit may provide some support for the Japanese yen.
