Japan's real wages rise for an eighth month
Japan's real wages increased 1.5% year-on-year in August, marking an eighth consecutive month of gains.
Nominal average cash earnings rose 3.8% year-on-year, compared with a 3.7% market expectation and a previous reading of 4.3%.
The continued rise in real wages supports the recovery in household purchasing power, while stronger-than-expected nominal wage growth could provide the Bank of Japan with an additional signal that the wage-price cycle remains intact.
The data remain one of the key indicators watched by the BoJ when assessing further monetary tightening.
