JPMorgan warns of legal uncertainty in crypto markets

JPMorgan stated that regulatory developments in the United States have partially reduced uncertainty in the cryptocurrency industry, but the absence of a comprehensive legal framework continues to pose risks.

Analysts led by Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou noted that the CLARITY Act, which has stalled in the Senate, is unlikely to become law in 2026 and could be delayed until 2027. According to the bank, measures introduced by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) are supporting institutional participation in crypto markets but have not fully eliminated political and legal risks.

JPMorgan identified the SEC's regulatory initiatives involving tokenized stocks, the CFTC's work on leveraged cryptocurrency trading, and the OCC's approvals for stablecoin companies as positive developments. However, the bank warned that decisions made by regulatory agencies could be reversed by future administrations, emphasizing that comprehensive cryptocurrency legislation passed by Congress is essential to establishing lasting regulatory certainty.
