Bank of Canada raises interest rate to 2.5%

The Bank of Canada (BoC) raised its policy interest rate by 25 basis points to 2.50%, up from the previous 2.25%.

The decision was in line with market expectations of 2.50%, marking a tightening of monetary policy.

The rate increase could lead to tighter financial conditions as the central bank seeks to contain inflationary pressures. With the decision matching expectations, the immediate market reaction may be limited, while the bank's guidance on future interest-rate moves could prove more important for the Canadian dollar and bond yields.
