Canada retail sales rebound
Canada's retail sales increased 1.2% month over month, slightly below market expectations of 1.3%.
The previous reading was revised downward from -0.7% to -0.8%. The return to positive growth following the previous month's contraction pointed to a recovery in consumer spending.
Core retail sales also rose 1.2% month over month, exceeding market expectations of 1.1%. The previous reading was revised from -0.7% to -0.8%. The rebound in both indicators suggested improving domestic demand in Canada, potentially reducing expectations for interest-rate cuts by the Bank of Canada (BoC).
